Kevin Gau, President David Ross, Vice-President Karen Munter, Secretary Dawn Murphy, Treasurer Deborah daBalos, Member at Large Stephanie Kensicki, Member at Large Mark Styslinger, Member at Large John Buckley, Chief Executive Officer HIVCO Staff John Buckley, Chief Executive Officer I came to Chicago and HIVCO in the summer of 1997 from San Diego, CA. For the previous two years. I had worked up and down the west coast with the AmeriCorps program, the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). I am one of the few people in the country with a Bachelor’s degree in history from the Georgia Institute of Technology (the program started my freshman year). I am married and have a dog and two cats. In the summer, I like to sail, and in the winter I like to whine about the cold and wish it were warm enough to sail.
Patricia Skehan, Deputy Executive Director I thought the new millennium would be an excellent time for a career change. In January 2000 I came on board at HIVCO in the area of community relations. My professional background is in post-secondary education. I have worked in an administration capacity at several universities including my alma mater, the University of Colorado. Now, as HIVCO’s Deputy Executive Director I have the pleasure of coming to work each day and working with an incredible team composed of staff, clients, and volunteers. . . . and my favorite food is pasta and my favorite color is yellow.
Debbie Kirman, Food Network Coordinator I first came to HIVCO as a volunteer in the Summer of 1999. From the beginning, I enjoyed working with HIVCO’s great staff, volunteers, and clients. My volunteer experience expanded into an Administrative Internship during my final year of college at DePaul University in Chicago. After graduation, I guess I was in the right place, at the right time, because I was hired as HIVCO’s Food Network Coordinator . . . and I have been here ever since. It is difficult to sum up my experience at HIVCO in a few sentences, but here goes. Few people can say they truly enjoy going to work each day (people tend to look at me funny when I say that – but it is true). I have an amazing opportunity to work with people who continually impress me with their kindness and dedication. Each day, I am so proud to be associated with all the individuals who are a part of this organization.
Levi Wier, Operations Manager Working on the west coast in the NCCC Americorps was my first long term experience of working as a volunteer, in service to help out others. After those two years I wanted to continue with the type of work I had been doing. After going to the complete other side of the country, to the east coast. I found what I was looking for right in the middle, in small suburb outside Chicago. I have since spent a great year and a half at HIVCO as the Operations Manager.
Leilani Harris, Prevention Services Manager In May of 2000 I began feeding my passion for people as HIVCO’s Prevention Services Manager. My eight years in social work have allowed me to experience the incredible will of people as they move though tragedy to triumph. "Loving people enough to tell them the truth" about HIV prevention – enabling them to make informed choices about their lives is my philosophy and the greatest joy of my work. The greatest joy in my life is my four year old son who challenges me to think more creatively than I thought possible. We live in the far south suburbs where there are still a few more trees than people. I love "the arts," theater, music, dance, poetry. My favorite quote reads . . . "That best portion of a good man’s life, his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love." – William Wordsworth. |
